Activities

Get Your Guide is a popular website that suggests a wide range of activities and attractions once you type in where you are going in the search bar. You can add dates, read the most recommended activities, the best tours, indoor and outdoor activities, and more. The site also has a 48 hours itinerary for almost every destination. Which can help you plan a weekend getaway. I prefer to use the website, but check the app reviews before downloading. You can even sign up to receive promotional emails on activities, events, and insider tips.

Airbnb Experience, just like the properties, offers a variety of unique experiences, from cooking classes, basket weaving, dance lessons, a photography session, and more, specific to your destination of choice. This allows for a more authentic feel, and you can check the reviews to see if the activity is a good fit for you.

Tripadvisor can provide you with popular things to do ( including multiple types of tours, walking, biking, bus, etc.), top attractions, day trips, along with others activities. Look before you book. Head to the description section and look at photos, rates, and reviews before making your choice. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your excursion for a full refund.

Viator is a Tripadvisor company that can filter your activity choices, including popular options (Ex: good for avoiding crowds, kid-friendly, etc.), price, duration, time, rating, and specials. With Viator, you can find an activity for almost every type of traveler. The platform offers details on what to expect and travel tips to help you prepare for your tour. There is a Reserve now and pay later option, and like Tripadvisor, you have free cancellation 24 hrs in advance.

Klook is a Hong Kong-based app that helps tourists find activities to do at the best deal across Asia. You can use this site while traveling to destinations other than Asia, but the activity list may vary in size and options. Buying tickets ahead of time can save you from standing in long lines and ticket prices that are subject to change. I booked a day trip to Nusa Penda while traveling through Bali. The activity included pick up and drop off, snorkeling (optional), lunch, and a private tour of the island’s East or West side. I loved the activities, the price, and the overall experience. I would not have found the tour without the Klook website. If you are visiting Asia, check it out.

Google is the mecca for information. With a quick search of “Free things to do this weekend (insert destination), “you can find free or inexpensive things to do while on your trip. Every experience doesn’t have to cost. Ex. Free walking tours, finding a place to listen to free live local music, and visiting a free museum are just a few ideas. Some vacation destinations even offer free activities such as renting a bike (CDMX), going kayaking (NYC), and watching a free hula show (HI). Be sure to research for more details. I am a sucker for a nice nature trail, a beautiful sunrise and set, and a packed lunch at the park or beach. Your trip is what you make it, so whatever you do, make it memorable.

General Cusine Tips

  •  Desire a more authentic eating experience? Ask a native or lodging staff, if possible, what is popular around.
  • At a vacation rental with a group? Look into booking a private chef.
